Short story

Gun violence is a controversial topic that affects many families across the United States. ABC
News states that between the years 2015-2019 about 74% of the 95,000 homicides that took
place was due to guns. Considering the vast majority of these homicides were committed by
guns raise the question as to why gun-control laws are not enforced all across the United States.
Many stories of the victims of gun violence go unnoticed. One particular story that stands out
against gun violence is Toye’s son Bryant’s senseless shooting committed in July. That day was
an ordinary day for everyone in his family as he asked his mom to drop him off to a party at his
friend’s house. His mother did not hear of him the next day until that afternoon she received a
call that her son had been shot to death in that apartment. The apartment the party took place in
had unsecured guns and that is where a teen took one of the guns and striked it which led to
Bryant’s death. Bryant had a bright future ahead of him, but it was all taken away. His family was
devastated hearing the news of his death. He was supposed to enjoy and hang out with his friends
like we all do but due to gun violence it all ended. If there were gun control laws set in action,
those guns would not be in the apartment unsecured, and Bryant could have been alive today.
There are many other victims in the country like Bryant who die simply because our country
cannot control gun violence and there is not enough legal action to stop this violence.
