Self-Assessment

In the beginning of this semester, I wanted to work on my essays and my writing. I believed that my writing had many grammatical and organizing problems. I did not believe in my essays and always thought that I lacked in writing. However, after a session about Language and Literature writing with my teacher, she told me that I had a false perception about my writing. She confronted me and made clear to me that my writing was strongly organized and very well structured. From that day on, I always wrote my essays and future writings with a strong belief in myself. The confidence my teacher provided me helped my writing become even better. Throughout this semester I have learned how to find and provide strong evidence for my essays. For example, for my discovery essay the articles I found had to be scholarly sources. Before this semester, I got evidence from Wikipedia and many other sources that could not be trusted. Now, I learned that my sources have to be from cites that can be trusted and are scholarly. Another thing I learned from this semester is how important revision is. Before this semester the first draft I used to write I always handed it in without changing it up. However, during this semester I learned the importance of revision. For example, my LLN and discovery essay drafts needed a lot of work which I would not have looked into. However, after having a session with Ms Katelin I went through each paragraph and read out loud which helped me visualize how the audience will perceive my writing. I was easily able to reorganize my paragraphs and spot the grammatical issues which has tremendously helped my writing. Another main thing I learned during this semester that will help me out throughout my life is about plagiarism. For my multimodal creative project, I handed it a drawing of another artist without giving any credit. Most teachers would have given a zero and not looked into it. However, my teacher talked about plagiarism and giving credit to anything used by another writer. I am thankful to my teacher, and I have learned a lot from this semester.
